On to the Memorial Cup

By Nathan White

Well, the Sea Dogs made a series of it, but I think the best team won in the end. The Moncton Wildcats captured the President’s Cup championship in six games, winning the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League crown for the second time in five years.

Moncton just had a deeper, older squad, with 11 19-year-olds to Saint John’s five, and just four 17-year-olds being counted on for regular minutes, including top prospect Brandon Gormley. Saint John, meanwhile, had eight 16- and 17-year-olds playing key minutes, and will be a force for at least two more seasons.

Sorry for the lack of blogging, the final kept me busy working for four media outlets, plus other projects I’m working on behind the scenes!
